History and Overview.

The Orange County Society of Ophthalmology (OCSO) is a nonprofit organization founded in the early 1960s to advance the science and art of ophthalmology, protect public health, and strengthen the profession.

OCSO members are physicians with medical degrees and specialized training in ophthalmology. Each member is certified—or eligible for certification—by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Together, they represent a community dedicated to excellence in eye care and innovation in the field.

Our website connects patients and families with trusted resources, offering reliable information and links that meet the high standards of our member physicians. Patients can also search our directory to find qualified ophthalmologists who provide the specific care they need.

Education is at the heart of OCSO’s mission. The society offers an ongoing forum for physicians to explore new technologies, techniques, and scientific advances through quarterly meetings, guest lectures, and accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs. The Executive Committee oversees all educational activities to ensure they address the evolving needs of our members and uphold the highest professional standards.

OCSO is proud to be a component of both the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) and the California Medical Association (CMA). While membership in OCSO is voluntary, it reflects a shared commitment to lifelong learning, collaboration, and the highest quality of patient care.

Please note that OCSO does not license or regulate physicians. Licensure authority rests with the Medical Board of California.
